Located in the historic harbourside suburb of Milsons Point, the owners of this Federation/Queen Anne terrace wanted to reinstate many of the original features which had been removed over the decades. Our brief was to select and install a tessellated pattern that celebrated the building's heritage, and elevated its aesthetic appeal.
In collaboration with the owners, we developed a specially customised design that combined the timeless elegance of the checkerboard pattern with site specific panels which subtly refer to the striking leadlight panels of the front door - the natural focal point of the facade.
The chromatic and geometric simplicity of the checkerboard pavement provides a strong yet contained contrast to the rich reds of the brickwork. The panels establish a link with the door's leadlights, but reinforce the aesthetic spirit of Queen Anne domestic architecture.
The clients were delighted with the result. The transformation had not only met, but exceeded their expectations.
